perform.

that's right party people... even though jay wished for my demise (see blog comments the post below)... i'm back with another installment of "Wex Wednesdays".

this week... we're going to discuss our favorite songs about performing live.

in no particular order (wex's wednesdays have no particular order), some of my favorites...

1. "award tour" by a tribe called quest
2. "move the crowd" by eric b. & rakim
3. "the show" by doug e. fresh & mc ricky d
4. "love on display" by brother ali
5. "soliloquy of chaos" by gang starr

remember when rappers cared about their live show?

Well hey -- and I'm surprised to be mentioning this track -- I think the first verse to "Lose Yourself" is pretty evocative of those nervy just-before-going-on-stage moments...

And A Tribe Called Quest's "Show Business" is a good behind-the-scenes look at all the b.s. that goes into putting rappers on stage...

Hands-down, best track is BDP's "Live's Gonna Get'Cha"

Right, Rap Promoter, I got the two tracks fused in my mind. "Don't forget my pastry, make sure that they're tasty."

Remember when Q-Tip made the most of every single line?

I just think the introduction of multiple hype men in rap has really ruined live performances. Why do I wanna go to a show and hear like 6 guys on stage yell out the end of each line?

DMX doing a solo show is great. He brings the energy that is seldom seen today. Therefore, I will go with "Get At Me Dog" as a top performance song to add to the list...
