Guest Blogger: Van

What's up y'all? It's Van, making a return appearance to Wex's Wednesdays. So yesterday, I'm at home listening to some mix CD I made a ways back and Redman's "Whateva Man" comes on. The first line of the second verse is something I get a kick out of every single time I hear it: "I smoked with a lot of college, students/Most of 'em, wasn't graduatin and they knew it." Genius!

Anyway, today's Wex's Wednesdays is list your favorite rap lines. Aside from that one, here's a couple of others I really dig:

1) "Well I'm that kid in the corner/All fucked up and I wanna so I'm gonna"--Beastie Boys, "Sure Shot". Man, that line gets me hype every time I hear it!

2) "What a way to go out, out like a sucker/But I'm on track, like a Long Island train conductor"--EPMD, "I'm Housin'". Sadly, it took me about 15 years to make out E saying "Long Island train conductor." Now that I know, I'm hooked on that lyric.

3) "I got 7 mac 11's, about 8 38's, 9 9's, 10 mac 10's/the shit never ends/You can't touch my riches/Even if you had MC Hammer and them 357 bitches"--Notorious B.I.G., that Biggie/2pac live song (I'm not sure of the title.) When I moved up here, that was on the radio all the time and I thought it was pretty dope. That still runs through my head all the time.

Those are a few. What's yours?

- Van

Places where you could get murdered over a glare
But everything is fair

So keepin it real will make you casualty of abnormal normality

There are too many to list. . . so I'll jsut go with my favorite lines with Star Wars references:

Talib Kweli "Get By"-
"We sell, crack to our own out the back of our homes
We smell the musk at the dusk in the crack of the dawn
We go through "Epidodes II," like "Attack of the Clones"
Work 'til we break our back and you hear the crack of the bone"

The Roots "Web"-
"I'm a big bounty hunter like Boba Fett
Y'all more shell shocked then a soldier get
If the prize in my sights then I'm goin' for this
Whoo whoo 'Riq Geez be the ultimate"

Pharoah Monch of Organized Konfusion has perhaps 1 of the greatest verses in rap history on "Stress" - here's a snippet of poetry in motion:

Why must you believe that something is phat just because its played on the radio 20 times per day?
My perception of poetical injection is ejaculation, the Immaculate Conception.

Thats some deep ish.
