Many of us have off from the 9-5 grind today - and i hope we can all take a moment to think back on Dr. Martin Luther King's truly remarkable legacy, as an American and as Human being. Peace to everybody.
One thing most memorials of Dr. King won't focus on is the turn his writings and speeches took in the years just before he was assassinated. He had an increasing interest in class issues, and on human rights worldwide -- as opposed to simply civil rights at home. He was an outspoken critic of U.S. foreign policy, for which he was smeared as anti-American by the mainstream media (Time magazine etc.)
To hear some of the man's lesser-known speeches from that later period, including the incredible speech he gave the night before he was killed (known as "I Have Been To The Mountaintop"), go to http://www.democracynow.org/2008/1/21/dr_martin_luther_king_jr_1929
